Made for More: Prophecy
1 Corinthians 14:1-12(niv)
1.Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. 2.For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. 3.But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. 4.Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church. 5.I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified. 6.Now, brothers and sisters, if I come to you and speak in tongues, what good will I be to you, unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or word of instruction? 7.Even in the case of lifeless things that make sounds, such as the pipe or harp, how will anyone know what tune is being played unless there is a distinction in the notes? 8.Again, if the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle? 9.So it is with you. Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air. 10.Undoubtedly there are all sorts of languages in the world, yet none of them is without meaning. 11.If then I do not grasp the meaning of what someone is saying, I am a foreigner to the speaker, and the speaker is a foreigner to me. 12.So it is with you. Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit, try to excel in those that build up the church."
1 Corinthians 12:4-10(niv)
4.There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5.There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6.There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. 7.Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8.To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 9.to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, 10.to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues."
To prophesy- prophēteuō
to speak forth by divine inspiration, to predict
to prophesy, with the idea of foretelling future events pertaining especially to the Kingdom of God
to utter forth, declare a thing which can only be known by divine revelation.
Prophecy- prophēteia
A discourse emanating from divine inspiration and declaring the purposes of God, whether by reproving and admonishing the wicked, or comforting the afflicted, or revealing things hidden; especially by fore telling future events
Prophecy also comes to correct and convict, so we must never dismiss this form because this is still prophecy.
The Purpose of Prophecy is Revelation
Revelation 19:10(AMPC)
10.Then I fell prostrate at his feet to worship (to pay divine honors) to him, but he [restrained me] and said, Refrain! [You must not do that!] I am [only] another servant with you and your brethren who have [accepted and hold] the testimony borne by Jesus. Worship God! For the substance (essence) of the truth revealed by Jesus is the spirit of all prophecy [the vital breath, the inspiration of all inspired preaching and interpretation of the divine will and purpose, including both mine and yours]."
Without revelation, we become stagnant and we fall into traditions.
We have to remain humble when operating in the gift of prophecy and should not use for monetary gain or to bully.
God reveals to redeem and it comes to display his heart and his love for his people.
We must judge prophecy and never take it at face value. It is important to take it, study it, and compare it to the word of God.
Revelation Brings Transformation
John 4:15-30 (msg)
Revelation Brings us from Now into Next
It is the key and we need it to move forward.
We should seek the words of God but never lean on the people who gives them to us because they are just a vessel. We must lean on GOD.
Without revelation we also end up guessing and wondering and ultimately wasting time.
